news Unification Minister Lee has a meeting with reporters accredited to the Ministry of Unification

On April 29, Unification Minister Lee In-young had a meeting with reporters accredited to the Ministry of Unification at the Special Office for Inter-Korean Dialogue.Minister Lee, in his opening remarks, talked about the situation on the Korean Peninsula and North Korea policy at home and abroad and emphasized the governments commitment to the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.[An excerpt of the opening remarks]Since making progress toward peace in 2018, dialogue and cooperation between the two Koreas and between North Korea and the US have been in a hiatus, with the result that there has been an absence of trust. On the occasion of the third anniversary of the Panmunjeom Declaration, I acutely realize that peace cannot be achieved overnight and that greater determination and more determined efforts are needed to overcome the 70-year history of hostility and the sturdy wall of national division. For the next few months, the government will put its heart and soul into building momentum for trust and dialogue between South and North Korea and the US.In the process, it will strive to create a virtuous cycle between development in inter-Korean relations and progress in relations between North Korea and the US with the greatest resolve.
