Emerging Leaders Fellowship

Overview

The Emerging Leaders Fellowship (former KUJIE, JKUEF) is a special program, provided by the National Institute for Unification Education of the Ministry of Unification of the Republic of Korea for mid-career foreign experts and scholars who are interested in Korean affairs. The ELF, which marks the fourth anniversary this year, provides a meaningful venue for international scholars and practitioners to share knowledge and deeper their understanding of the ROK government’s policy towards North Korea and a vision for a unified Korea. Networking among the experts at home and abroad is another valuable quality that ELF offers.

Contents

ELF participants will be given a range of in-class lectures followed by free discussion on the chosen subject, field trips and one-day International Conference.

  • Topics for lecture including, but not confined to:
    • The ROK’s unification policy and a vision for a unified Korea;
    • The ROK’s unification diplomacy and international cooperation;
    • Security issues on the Korean peninsula;
    • Current tasks of the Inter-Korean relations; and
    • Understanding North Korean society
  • Field Trips:
    • DMZ and Panmunjeom;
    • Inter-Korean Transit Office;
    • High school for North Korean refugees; and
    • Settlement Support Center for North Korean Refugees(Hanawon), etc.
  • Cultural Tours: Korean historical and cultural sites, contemporary history museum, etc.
  • International Academic Conference: every attendee of ELF will participate in the conference as a presenter or discussant.
