Minister Kim Yung Ho meets with German Ambassador to Korea Georg Schmidt (October 18)
On October 18, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho met with German Ambassador to South Korea, Georg Schmidt, to exchange views on the Korean Peninsula issues and North Korean policies.
Expressing his hopes that South Korea and Germany, celebrating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, will deepen mutual cooperation, Minister Kim explained the Korean government’s policy directions on North Korea’s denuclearization, the promotion of human rights in North Korea, and unification preparation based on the liberal democratic order, and asked for the German government’s cooperation and support.
Moreover, Minister Kim shared concerns about the recent North Korea-Russia military cooperation and forced repatriation of North Korean defectors, and called on the German government and the EU to pay attention to the issue of forced repatriation of North Korean defectors.
Ambassador Schmidt expressed interest in the South Korean government’s policy directions and said he would “strive to expand friendly cooperation between the two countries in the future.”
