We strongly urge North Korea to abolish the “Anti-Reactionary Thought Law”

On August 24, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho attended and gave a congratulatory message at a seminar centered around the theme of “Initiatives for Restructuring Policy Framework and Bolstering Domestic and International Cooperation in Resolving Human Rights Challenges in North Korea” co-hosted by the National Assembly’s Global Diplomacy and Security Forum, Member of the National Assembly Tae Young-ho, and the Database Center for North Korean Human Rights (NKDB).

Minister Kim emphasized, “To practically improve human rights in North Korea, outside information and culture must flow into the North Korean society and be disseminated so that North Korean residents can themselves realize the situation they are facing

“The ‘Hallyu (Korean Wave) culture’ spreading within North Korea is becoming a ray of hope for North Korean residents, replacing ‘Juche culture’ as an ‘aternative culture,’” he added.

He also mentioned that “the North Korean people’s asipirations for freedom and human rights and the course of history that has expanded and realized universal values of humanity cannot be defied forever.”

The minister stated, “We strongly urge North Korea to promptly abolish the “Anti-Reactionary Thought Law that blocks the access of North Korean residents to outside information.”
