Minister Kim Yung Ho delivers inaugural address as the 43rd Unification Minister (July 28)

On July 28, the inauguration ceremony of the 43rd Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho took place.

During his inaugural address, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho said, “Especially in times like these, I believe that consistently pushing forward with unification and North Korean policies strictly based on ‘values and principles’ is the most appropriate way to resolve the Korean Peninsula issues and a shortcut to advancing unification.”

Minister Kim emphasized that “it is important to shape conditions for a ‘liberal and peaceful unification’ on the basis of the universal values of humanity, such as freedom, democracy, human rights, rule of law, and peace.”

“Rather than immoderately dwelling on the transient ups and downs of inter-Korean relations, it is critical to take the long view and push forward with policies based on clear principles,” he added.

The minister also mentioned that “from this time forth, we need to reflect on the unification work and reorganize it anew based on firm ‘values and principles’ and resolute determination.”

Minister Kim stated that “the Ministry of Unification should concentrate its efforts on three key tasks: the first is to deter North Korea from developing its nuclear program and make the North to abandon it; the second is to improve human rights issues in North Korea; and the third is to prepare for unification under firm values and vision.”
