On March 30, Unification Minister Kwon Youngse attended a photo exhibition, “MEMENTO: Shedding New Light on the Efforts of the International Community for Human Rights and Women’s Rights in North Korea,” hosted by the Database Center for North Korean Human Rights (NKDB) and sponsored by lawmaker Thae Yong-ho.
During his remarks, Minister Kwon said, “The Yoon administration recognizes the human rights issue in North Korea as being as grave as the North’s nuclear issue.”
“It is important to plainly let our people know about the horrendous reality of the human rights situation in North Korea, and in that sense, the photo exhibition, which sheds light on the efforts of the international community for human rights and women’s rights in North Korea, is deeply meaningful.
Moreover, Minister Kwon made mention of the “2023 North Korean Human Rights Report,” the first report on North Korean human rights to be made public by the ministry today, and said, “As the report covers the graphic reality of human rights situation in North Korea, please have a look and spread the word about the reality of the North Korean human rights issue.”
