Unification Minister Kwon Youngse delivers a speech at a seminar on the occasion of the UN COI on Human Rights in the DPRK‘s 10th anniversary (March 20)
On March 20, Minister Kwon Youngse attended a seminar held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and delivered a speech.
Minister Kwon said, “The Yoon administration has set the human rights issue in North Korea as a task equally as important as resolving the North’s nuclear program, and is exploring every avenue to solve it, including appointing an ambassador for human rights in North Korea and co-sponsoring a UN resolution on North Korea’s human rights abuses.”
“In particular, we plan to launch the North Korean Human Rights Promotion Committee, which will serve the role and function of the North Korean Human Rights Foundation until its establishment to preserve the purpose of the North Korea Human Rights Act,” he added.
Moreover, he stated that “The Unification Ministry will soon publish an annual report on the status of human rights in North Korea, the first public report of the Korean administration, to inform the world of the actual circumstances of North Korea’s human rights.”
The minister closed his speech by saying, “Our goal is to enable North Koreans to enjoy the rights they deserve as human beings in their daily lives and live a free and prosperous life, and that is the unified future we dream of.”
