Having a perspective that “North Korea’s war can be viewed as a war of justice” is an anti-state view that undermines the achievements and identity of the Republic of Korea
The Unification Ministry holds a film screening event for “Beyond Utopia” with youths in their 20s and 30s (January 31)
On January 31, the Ministry of Unification held a film screening event for “Beyond Utopia” with youths in their 20s and 30s.
The event was attended by around 200 young people, and following the screening, a question-and-answer session with Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho and Pastor Kim Sung-eun was held.
* “Beyond Utopia” is a documentary film vividly portraying the story of two North Korean defector families escaping from the land they believed to be a “paradise” in search of true freedom, along with a pastor’s efforts to rescue them.
Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho emphasized that North Korea’s recent rhetoric, “subjugate South Korea using nuclear weapons,” and continued military provocations, including missile launches, are an act of political provocation designed to drive a wedge in South Korean society.
In relation to this, Minister Kim criticized the recent argument raised in certain sectors of society, “accepting North Korea’s perspective of war for the purpose of peace,” for following North Korea’s propaganda, and added that our people will never accept it.
Furthermore, the minister stressed that, to repel North Korea’s deception and propaganda tactics, our people and the government should unite in recognizing the true nature of the North and strive for the unification of the Korean Peninsula based on liberal democracy.
Lastly, Minister Kim said that, like the movie “Beyond Utopia,” there should be more opportunities for people to see the realities of North Korean human rights, and that he will make consistent efforts to reveal the realities of North Korea through the soon-to-be-published Status Report on North Korean Economy and Society and nationwide lectures.
