1. Ministry to hold the 1st meeting of the 2022 Council on North Korean Human Rights

On August 25, the Unification Ministry will hold the 1st meeting of the 2022 Council on North Korean Human Rights chaired by the Vice Minister of Unification. The Council is a government consultative body stipulated by the Article 17 of the Enforcement Decree of the North Korean Human Rights Act, and is composed of public officials of the related agencies such as the Ministries of Unification, Justice, and Foreign Affairs.

This meeting, which resumes in two years and three months since May 11, 2020, will review the Government’s status on North Korean human rights policy and discuss the preparation of the report human rights report in North Korea.

2. Minister’s Schedule

Minister Kwon Youngse will attend an event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Republic of Korea and China at 4:30 P.M. today.
On Wednesday August 24, Minister Kwon will meet with Chinese Ambassador to Korea, Xing Haiming.

On August 23, Minister Kwon will deliver a lecture on the Government’s unification and North Korea policy at the University of North Korean Studies.
