Open Invitation for  International Experts on Korean Unification
as a Professor of the Institute for Unification Education

 

 

Program Overview

 

The Institute for Unification Education (IUE), Ministry of Unification in the Republic of Korea (ROK) wishes to invite eligible scholars or experts on the issues of the Korean unification. This project has two objectives; to share and expand the common ground of understanding on the peaceful unification of the two Koreas in the international community and to raise public awareness of unification issues among the Korean people.

 

 

 

Eligibility: Applicant must meet at least one of the following requirements.

• Scholars and experts who have conducted research on regional issues of Northeast Asia or the Korean peninsula for more than ten years and who have published books or presented for several times on the same subject aforesaid.
• Senior government officials in charge of the Korean peninsula issues
• Those who have more than ten years of professional experience in   non-governmental or international organizations, which provide humanitarian assistance to North Korea.

* Priority on those who can lecture in Korean

 

 

 

Period of Invitation

 

• Your are required to stay for at least two weeks, and you may stay up to maximum three weeks in May or from August to November, 2014.
• Those who cannot stay for the entire period are welcome to give lectures for five days outside of Seoul.

 

 

 

Activities

 

• In-house lectures at the Institute for Unification Education (IUE)

       - Program for future leaders of unification, program for teachers, program for central and local officials, special programs in IUE, etc.

• External lectures and seminars in the Seoul Capital Area
• During your stay, you are required to give special lectures in rural areas for five days.

* IUE will arrange lectures and seminars.

 

 

Audience : Central & local officials, teachers, university students, members of unification-related organization, South Korean citizens, etc.

 

 

 

Topics:  It should be related to the following subjects;

 

• The legitimacy and the need to prepare for peaceful unification of the Korean peninsula, the perspectives of the neighboring countries and the support and cooperation of the international community for Korean unification. (common theme)
• For Americans, you may cover bilateral issues such as US policy toward the Korean peninsula or bilateral relations; South Korea- U.S., U.S.-North Korea or tripartite co-operation on security matter among U.S., South Korea and Japan.
• Likewise for Chinese, you may deal with bilateral or international relations on the Korean peninsula; South Korean-Chinese or Chinese-North Korean relations. (political, military, and economic cooperation)
• For Germans, experience of German unification and preparation for Korean unification
• For experts in EU, the process of European integrations and policy implication on Korean unification, etc.

 

 

 

 

Terms and Details of Program Support

 

You will receive an honorarium and we will cover your travel expenses.

• Honorarium(U$ 1=about  ₩1,100) : ₩300,000 per lecture ( 80 minutes)
• Airfare : economy-class round trip airfare
• Accommodation, meals, domestic travel expenses for lectures
• Office room at the Institute for Unification Education

Result Notification :

 

The result of your application will be notified individually in May.
