Unification of the Korean Peninsula is a task that requires responsible cooperation from the international community

Unification Ministry holds a policy briefing session for Harvard University graduate students visiting Korea (January 13)

On January 13, the Ministry of Unification held a policy briefing session on unification and North Korea policies for visiting Harvard Kennedy School students as part of the Korea Trek* program.

*Korea Trek: A visiting program to South Korea organized auto****usly by Kennedy School students as part of the Study Trek that introduces various aspects, such as politics, economy, and culture from around the world. It comprises meetings with key figures in the politics and economic sectors, and field visits.

During the event, Unification Vice Minister Kim Soo Kyung explained that the South Korean government is consistently pursuing “peaceful unification based on the liberal democratic order” as stipulated in the Constitution. To this end, the Ministry of Unification is making all-encompassing efforts to bring about the right changes in North Korea, build domestic unification capabilities, and strengthen international cooperation and support for the unification of the Korean Peninsula.

Furthermore, Vice Minister Kim emphasized that the “unification” pursued by the South Korean government aims to guarantee and expand the freedom and human rights of all people on the Korean Peninsula, based on universal human values. As such, it is a task that requires responsible cooperation from the international community. The vice minister asked for the Harvard University students’ interest and support for the unification of the Korean Peninsula.
