At 11 A.M., Minister Kim will deliver a lecture at an event held by the Korea Peace Foundation.

Q. Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the WPK issued a statement last night, stating the ROK will witness a new counteraction if it simultaneously carries out leaflet scattering and loudspeaker broadcasting. How does the Ministry evaluate this statement, and what could a “new counteraction” be?

A. The Ministry will not make assumptions about the North’s “new counteraction.”Yo

With regards to Kim Yo Jong’s statement, the ROK Government has made it clear that it will take unbearable measures against the North in reaction to recent provocations including trash balloon launches.

The Government will not tolerate any attempt by the North to cause social disruption and unrest among our people. The North should not make the misjudgement of using our just response as a justification for provocation.

Q. The precondition of conducting a new counteraction as mentioned in Kim Yo Jong’s statement is the continued scattering of leaflets and simultaneous broadcasting through loudspeakers. Does the Ministry maintain its stance of following the Constitutional Court’s ruling, not asking for restraint in flying leaflets toward North Korea?

A. The Ministry’s approach toward the issue of disseminating leaflets and other items to the North remains unchanged. It will consider the intent of the Constitutional Court’s decision to guarantee freedom of expressiσn.
