Unification Ministry builds cooperation and solidarity with the international community to address the issues of abductees, detainees, and POWs

The United Kingdom “All-Party Parliamentary Groups on North Korea (APPG NK)*”

On March 26, the members of the “All-Party Parliamentary Groups on North Korea (APPG NK),” through an official statement urging North Korean authorities to release the South Korean detainees, expressed their will to stand in solidarity with the government of the Republic of Korea and joined the efforts to wear the “forget-me-not” badge in remembering the South Korean abductees, detainees, and prisoners of war (POWs).

* APPG NK (The United Kingdom All-Party Parliamentary Group on North Korea): Consists of 20 Members of the Commons and Lords, representing the left-, right-, and middle-wing, and all political parties, including independents.

Blooming of “forget-me-nots” in South America

From April 15 to 18, Ambassador Lee Shinhwa visited South America and met with Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate of the National Congress of Argentina Francisco Paoltroni and Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Joel Hernández García to deliver the “forget-me-not” badge and ask for their cooperation in improving North Korean human rights, including the issue of abductees.

The U.S. State Department’s Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Human Rights Report, which is used as a base data for formulating U.S. diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian support policies, has documented the issue of abductees and the names of South Korean detainees for the third consecutive year.

The South Korean government will persist in its endeavors to strengthen international solidarity on the issues of abductees, detainees, and POWs, so that calls for the resolution of these issues towards North Korea can be expanded as a global voice.
